CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Monday is Memorial Day, a federal holiday as we honor military personnel who died serving in the United States Armed Forces.

It’s also the unofficial start of summer.

Here’s a list of events around the Tri-State:

Cincinnati Reds play the St. Louis Cardinals

The Reds are stepping up to the plate for a three-series game against the Cardinals, starting at 4:10 p.m.

Monday is also Military Appreciation Day, meaning there will be a few ceremonies honoring military groups.

Taste of Cincinnati 2024

Monday is the final day of Taste of Cincinnati.

It runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fifth Street between Main Street and east of Sentinel Street in downtown Cincinnati.

Event organizers say this year’s event is their biggest yet with dozens of vendors such as AJ’s Cheesesteaks, Chino’s Street Food and El Vaquero.

Field of Memories

Arlington Memorial Gardens is hosting its 9th annual Field of Memories for Memorial Day Weekend.

Thousands of U.S. flags stand in the gardens, recognizing veterans and those currently active.

People can sponsor a flag to honor an individual’s service and sacrifice through donations.

Middletown Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

The annual Middletown Memorial Day parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at Smith Park and travels down Verity Parkway to Woodside Cemetery.

The ceremony will take place at Woodside Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. You can find more information on the Middletown Ohio Events Facebook page.

Blue Ash Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The City of Blue Ash is hosting its 72nd-annual Memorial Day celebration starting at 10:15 a.m.

The parade will begin at Reed Hartman Highway and Cooper Road, followed by a ceremony in the Cancer Support Community parking lot at 4918 Cooper Rd.

Attendees will get the opportunity to watch a flyover by the Cincinnati Warbirds (weather-dependent), and listen to Keynote Speaker retired Major General Dr. Leonard M. Randolph Jr.

Maj. Gen. Randolph was the first African-American to be promoted to General Officer in the U.S. Air Force Medical Service and was the first African-American to hold the position of Deputy Surgeon General in any of the military services, the city says.

Memorial Day Concert in Blue Ash

The Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra is honoring veterans this Memorial Day with a free concert, called “Up Up and Away.”

Musical numbers are from Wicked, Rocky and Stravinsky’s Firebird.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Tom Stone Amphitheater.

Loveland Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

Loveland’s annual Memorial Day event will kick off at 9 a.m. starting with the parade.

The route begins at Loveland Elementary School and ends at Loveland Veterans Memorial.

A ceremony will be held immediately after the parade at Veterans Memorial with special guest speaker Col. J. Scott Calder, a graduate of Loveland High School and a US Air Force Medical Service veteran.

Cemetery visits will take place at various times:

  • Maineville Cemetery begins at 11:15 a.m.
  • Union Cemetery begins at noon
  • Kerr Cemetery begins at 12:30 p.m.

Following the ceremony, a community picnic will kick off at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 256, located at 897 Oakland Rd.

Memorial Day Ceremony at Union Township

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Clermont County Chapter 649, is hosting its 32nd annual Memorial Day ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Union Township.

The honorary event will begin at 6 a.m. with the reading of the names of those fallen from the Tri-State Area. This will continue every hour on the hour until 1 p.m.

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.

Anyone who wants to read names should be there 15 minutes before the top of the hour.

A flag will be placed on each cross displayed in the field near Helicopter Memorial after each name is read.

“This is an excellent time for family members and grandchildren to participate by placing a flag on a cross in memory of a fallen soldier,” said VVA 649 President John Mattingly.

Hamilton Memorial Day Parade

The City of Hamilton will honor the lives of those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces with a ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery.

Following the ceremony, a parade will circle around the city starting at 10 a.m. at Court Street in downtown Hamilton.

Here are the road closures for the parade:

  • Court Street from Monument Street to Second Street
  • Second Street from Court Street to High Street
  • High Street from Front Street to Erie Highway
  • Seventh Street from High Street to Heaton Street
  • Dayton Street from Seventh Street to Erie Highway
  • North Tenth Street from Dayton Street to Heaton Street
  • Heaton Street from Seventh Street to Fair Avenue

Covington’s Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The City of Covington will host a series of Memorial Day events, including a parade and a 21-gun salute.

A list of the morning ceremonies can be found below:

  • VFW Post 6095 at 347 E. 47th St. – 7 a.m.
  • American Legion Post 203 on Winston Highway – 7:45 a.m.
  • Korean War Memorial at Ritte’s Corner in Latonia – 7:55 a.m.
  • Vietnam Memorial at 38th and Church streets -- 8:05 a.m.
  • World War II Memorial at Holmes High School – 8:30 a.m.
  • Mother of God Cemetery at 3125 Madison Ave. – 8:45 a.m.
  • Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd. – 9:05 a.m.

Of course, the parade will follow after the series of events.

“The parade is no doubt a fun time, but it’s important to remember the reason behind it,” city manager Ken Smith said. “As a community, it’s appropriate that we gather to honor the sacrifice of Covingtonians throughout the years because it’s that service and sacrifice that preserved this country and its values.”

Parade participants will start lining up at Holmes High School at 1 p.m. The gaggle will leave campus around 2 p.m., making their way north on Madison Avenue west onto 19th Street, north on Holman Avenue, and then west on 13th Street.

It will end at Linden Grove where another ceremony will commence at about 3:15 p.m.

Additionally, Fairhaven Rescue Mission will host its 2nd annual Memorial Day Community Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 498 E. 10th St.
