Are you looking for the perfect co*cktail for your holiday party or maybe a romantic evening in front of the fireplace? My chocolate martini is just what you’re looking for!

It’s elegant, chocolaty, fun, and delish!! It’s the perfect way to spice up any occasion.

Make a few glasses for a fun night in with your friends or whip up a big batch for a festive holiday party. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

I used to use Godiva chocolate liqueur but sadly they are out of business.

If you’re super lucky and find a bottle on the shelf grab that baby! So my new go-to is Mozart and it’s a good replacement. Okay, it’s co*cktail time!

Ingredients of a Chocolate Martini

Here are the ingredients you will need to make your chocolate martinis;

Vodka

Since vodka is a key ingredient, I suggest you choose a good quality vodka. This will ensure that your chocolate martini is smooth and delicious. While I prefer to use Titos, any good-quality vodka will work.

Chocolate Liqueur

As I mentioned earlier, I originally used Godiva chocolate liqueur, but unfortunately, it’s no longer available. Luckily, a great replacement is Mozart Chocolate liqueur. This spirit is creamy and chocolaty and works perfectly in this recipe.

Creme de Cacao

This ingredient adds a bit of sweetness to the martini. White creme de cacao has a milder flavor than its darker counterpart, so if you don’t like things too sweet, this is a great choice.

Half-and-Half

Half-and-half is a mixture of equal parts milk and cream, and it’s often used in co*cktails to add a creamy, smooth texture. You can use half-and-half in your chocolate martini to give it a rich, velvety texture. If you don’t have half-and-half, you can use heavy cream instead.

Chocolate Syrup

Chocolate syrup not only adds some sweetness, but it adds a decorative element to your chocolate martini. You can use any type of chocolate syrup you like, but my go-to is Hershey’s chocolate syrup. You can drizzle the chocolate syrup inside your martini glass before pouring in the co*cktail, or you can use it to garnish the top of the co*cktail.

Add The Garnish

First, make sure your glasses are free of dust and watermarks.

Syrup

  • Hold your glass at an angle
  • Tip the syrup bottle pointing into the glass and squeeze a thin line of chocolate around the glass
  • Rotate your glass to get a pretty swirl effect!

Some people also opt to dip the rim in chocolate. You do this by making a circle of syrup the size of your martini glass and simply dip. I find this too messy while drinking plus it’s just too much chocolate for my taste!

Prepare Your Curls

  1. Have your chocolate at room temp or zap with a blow dryer for only a second.
  2. Take a potato peeler and pull down the side of the bar. (Buy a couple just in case you need a little practice or a snack..lol)
  3. You can grate the Hershey’s with a cheese grater over each drink. Easy peasy and it still looks like you went to a lot of trouble!
  4. One more option is to grate your chocolate over a dish then lightly dampen the rim of each glass and dip your glass in the shavings. Looks pretty but sticks to my lip gloss so I usually just swirl the syrup in my glasses and garnish it with a curl!

If all this garnish business seems like a pain in you know where just skewer a Lindt truffle with a toothpick like an olive and float it in the drink. What could be more fun and easy than that!!

Use a co*cktail Shaker

Although martinis are traditionally stirred, not shaken, a chocolate martini is an exception to the rule. To create a creamy and frothy texture, you want to use a co*cktail shaker.

  • Fill Your Shaker Halfway With Ice
  • Add Your Ingredients; vodka, chocolate liqueur, creme de cacao, half & half
  • Shake Vigorously For 20 Seconds
  • Strain Into Each Martini Glass

Tips

I usually account for 2 martinis per guest. You can always measure all this out in a pitcher and then put it in the fridge so you’re not stuck mixing and shaking your way through your party!

Preparing a Large Batch for Festive Gatherings

If you’re hosting a larger gathering or want to streamline the process for your holiday party, preparing a large batch of Chocolate Martinis in advance can be a game-changer. Here’s how you can make it ahead of time:

  1. Calculate the number of servings you’ll need based on the number of guests. I usually account for 2 martinis per guest.
  2. Multiply the ingredients by the desired number of servings. For example, if you’re aiming for 10 servings, multiply each ingredient measurement by 10.
  3. Instead of using a co*cktail shaker, you’ll need a larger container to mix the ingredients. I use a pitcher.
  4. Combine the multiplied amounts of vodka, chocolate liqueur, creme de cacao, and half & half (or heavy cream) in the pitcher. Stir well to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed.
  5. Cover with saran wrap & refrigerate the mixture for no more than 2 days.
  6. When it’s time to serve, make sure your martini glasses are prepared with the garnishes mentioned earlier.
  7. Stir the large batch of Chocolate Martini well. (Separation is normal because of the cream).
  8. Pour into a shaker and shake it over ice for each drink. (Depending on the size of your shaker you can usually make two drinks at a time.)
  9. Add the final touches by garnishing each glass with chocolate shavings or a chocolate curl.

By preparing a large batch in advance, you can spend more time enjoying the company of your guests and less time behind the bar.
