Meet Christina M., a 2024 Master of Science in Real Estate student. Christina earned her degree in Urban Studies and Planning with a focus on development from San Francisco State University, where she interned at Eviction Defense Collaborative, Inc. This experience opened her eyes to the eviction crisis and directed her career toward affordable housing.After several years in the affordable housing industry, Christina decided to transition to the finance side. Excitement was in the air Tuesday night as MBA candidates in The School of BusinessPioneering Innovation class delivered their final project of the term. Students pitched their team's venture for their final grade and recognition as the 2024 Pioneering Innovation Venture Pitch Contest Champion. These team ventureswere developed throughout the term usingthe business model canvas framework,principles from the lean startup method and a host of other entrepreneurial-based concepts. Special thanks toCara Turano, Jon Maroney, Marcel NewsomeandDrew Smith who served as the investors and joined instructorJohn Nee.The students delivered professional, persuasive and creative 10-minute pitches that were scored and graded on 10 criteria such as customer value proposition, market segmentation and go-to-market plan. It brought out the best of the students since they were graded on the project while enjoyingsome fun competition among their classmates.The winning team was Body Fuel - A PowerPop with Muscle+, a delicious and satisfying high-protein, low-calorie treat allowingpeople to indulge in a guilt-free dessert while still committed to their fitness goals. Clinton Powells Omondi JR. was on the track and field team at PSU for three years. He earned bachelor’s in Business Administration – Marketing and Advertising and a minor in Social Science. Clinton works for Swire Coca-Cola, USA as a sales account manager. He is also the CEO and founder of the Endless Love Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that helps the needy in Africa.“I was able to make a lot of friends and be able to network and Portland State helped me to see business in a different perspective. PSU taught me leadership, sportsmanship, and time management. I use those skills today in my career by stressing how important teamwork is and leading by example. Teamwork and leadership keep me on the same page as his team.”
