This recipe makes the basic raw almond butter using just two ingredients – raw whole almonds and salt. You can easily turn it into flavored almond butter by adding natural flavorings of your choice. Add a tablespoon of honey for honey almond butter, maple syrup for maple almond butter, or crushed chocolate bar for chocolate almond butter! The possibilities are endless!

You can also make roasted almond butter by roasting the almonds for 5 minutes in a 350F oven before grinding them in a food processor. I personally prefer them raw in almond butter because raw almonds have more anti-oxidants than roasted.

FAQs

What is the difference between raw and not raw almond butter? ›

What is the difference between your “raw” and “roasted” products? Raw nut butter products are made from pasteurized almonds, however they do not go through the same heat treatments as the roasted products. Roasted nut butters are baked or heated to produce a desired flavor and/or color prior to grinding.

What is raw almond butter? ›

Raw almond butter is often considered a healthier option as it contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

How do you make almond butter creamy again? ›

Stir 1-2 drops of peanut or canola oil into dry almond butter to revive it. Carefully pour just a drop or 2 of the oil into the almond butter. Use a butter knife to stir it in thoroughly. Peanut oil and canola oil are both neutral oils that can make it more creamy and spreadable without changing the flavor.

How many almonds does it take to make a jar of almond butter? ›

How long does homemade raw almond butter last? ›

Almond trees must grow to full maturity before they flower and bear nuts. They are also a crop which will grow only in certain places in the world (for Once Again, in California or Italy), and crops in these places are producing less flowers, thus less nuts. Demand is high, which makes the price rise.

Does raw almond butter need to be refrigerated? ›

The easiest way to prevent your almond butter from going bad and extend its shelf-life—by as much as twice as long—is to pop it in the fridge. Keeping your almond butter in the fridge is especially important if you tend to purchase nut butters without preservatives or if you like to make your own nut butter.

Is raw almond butter anti inflammatory? ›

Why won't my almond butter won't get creamy? ›

Roasting them for just 10 minutes before blending allows the natural oils within the almonds to release toward the skin, which really helps in the blending process. So if you don't want to roast them, you will need to add some oil, about 2 or so tablespoons to help it become creamy.

Why is my homemade nut butter not getting creamy? ›

If it's been about 10 minutes and your nut butter still isn't getting creamy, you can add a tiny bit of oil. I occasionally have to add 1 – 2 teaspoons of oil (I love using coconut oil) to help with the blending process, but when you're using roasted nuts, it really shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Is it cheaper to buy or make almond butter? ›

Surprisingly, homemade almond butter is not always cheaper than the store-bought version. If you compare them on a cost-per-ounce basis, 1 ounce of whole almonds costs more than 1 ounce of almond butter. In this case, homemade is better because of the flavor, not necessarily because of the cost.
