GLUTEN FREE SAUSAGE ROLLS APPETIZER

These sausage rolls represent an authentic British classic, perfect for holidays or brunch. What’s great about these gluten free sausage rolls is that they work well at co*cktail parties. People can easily graze on them, making the sausage rolls a great appetizer.

SERVING

These flavorful sausage rolls are best served hot and straight out of the oven, although the savory snack is almost as delicious at room temperature.

GLUTEN FREE FILLING FOR SAUSAGE ROLLS

When I began developing this recipe for Gluten-Free Sausage Rolls, uncertainty lingered regarding the outcome. My initial focus was on achieving a flaky and light texture for the gluten free pastry.

Choosing to steer clear of pre-packaged sausage meat from the butcher, my preference stemmed from a desire to infuse my own flavors and avoid the often excessive salt content in commercially available sausage meat.

While gluten free sausage meat is readily available in many butcher stores today, my commitment to freshness led me to create the meat filling entirely from scratch.

For those seeking a time-saving option, the gluten free sausage meat can be substituted for the homemade filling in this recipe.

To maintain a light consistency in the meat filling, I introduced a handful of oats, serving as a wholesome replacement for traditional breadcrumbs commonly found in sausage roll fillings.

For those who prefer gluten free breadcrumbs, simply swap the oats with gluten free breadcrumbs mixed with one tablespoon of water.

My choice of oats not only contributes to a healthier option but also adds fiber. In my experience, many gluten free breadcrumbs are laden with fats, table salt, and starch, often falling short in flavor. Hence, I’ve found oats to be a more appealing and nutritious alternative.

REHEATING GLUTEN FREE SAUSAGE ROLLS

Oven:

Preheat your oven to around 350 F (175 C).

Place the sausage rolls on a baking sheet, leaving space between them.

Heat them in the oven for about 8-10 minutes or until they are thoroughly heated.

This method helps to retain the crispiness of the pastry.

Microwave:

If you’re short on time, you can use a microwave.

Place the sausage rolls on a microwave-safe plate.

Heat on medium power for about 45 seconds, checking periodically to avoid overcooking.

Keep in mind that the pastry may not remain as crisp as when using the oven.

Air Fryer:

If you have an air fryer, it’s an excellent option for reheating, as it can help maintain the pastry’s crispiness.

Preheat the air fryer to 350 F (175 C).

Place the sausage rolls in the air fryer basket and heat for about 5-8 minutes until heated through.

Toaster Oven:

Similar to the oven method, you can use a toaster oven.

Preheat the toaster oven to 350 F (175 C).

Place the sausage rolls on a baking sheet and heat for 8-10 minutes.
